This alternative would yield a water volume in Ruedi Reservoir at

the end of August of only 90,700 acre-feet. Water depletions from this alter-

native could increase Colorado River salinity by 1.1 percent. Drawdown in the

reservoir from July 1 to September 1 would be n~arly 14 feet, which would be a

loss of 85 surface acres.

This alternative would have a nine percent chance
,

.

of having Ruedi Reservoir below 52,000 acre-feet in volume on September 1 in

any year. This alternative was largely eliminated because of these environ-

mental impacts.

..

Alternative 3. Municipal/Industrial
This alternative was similar to Alternative 2

Water, Full Supply
except that water would be

sold to meet the full supply to users on a regularly scheduled basis. The

amount of water sold from the reservoir would remain constant in any given

year. M&I demand is based on an 80 percent/20 percent split between

industrial and municipal users, respectively. Releases for M&I users would

"

occur in every month.

'The maximum level of water sales to be achieved under
i

this alternative is 70,000 acre-feet.

Impacts from Alternative 3 were less than many other alternatives. The

most severe impacts included changing Fryingpan River stream flows by more

than 10 .percent in 10 months of the average yea~. The alternative created the

largest salinity change in the Colorado River o~ all alternatives, 2.2 per-

i
cent. The probability of Ruedi Reservoir beingibelow 85,000 acre-feet on

September 1 was 42 percent.

Alternative' 3 was largely eliminated because none of the water users

requesting water from Bureau of Reclamation expressed an interest in obtaining

a full supply. All indicated they would use RUedi water to augment their

water rights.

Alternative 4, Municipal/Industrfal Water Sales, Supplemental

Supply With a Single Fill Limitation on Ruedi Reservoir

Under a single fill restriction all inflows to Ruedi Reservoir would be

charged to the reservoir decree beginning in October of each water year. This

produces an administrative condition on the resefvoir known as a paper fill.

When the inflow to the reservoir has exceeded the reservoir storage capacity,

a paper fill is in effect. The reservoir may no~ have actually physically

filled at this point, but under the restriction of a paper fill, additional

storage of water is prohibited for that reservoir decree.
