F. Dugan
Director, Regional Office, Region 7
Bureau of Reclamation
Building 46, Denver Federal Center
Denver, Colorado

Dear Mr. Dugan:

In accordance 'fIi th the disclJ..s~ions .,nth Mr. BeTg and members of
your Project Development Staff on 26 July 1965, we have completed an
evaluation of the flood control requirements for the Narrows unit.
Because of the relatively short period of time available for completing
this study, the information furnished in this letter has not been reviewed
by our Missouri River Division. Therefore, benefit and storage values
presented herein are subject to change.

Average annual flood damages and flood control benefits, as related
to the Narrows project, were developed on the basis of eXisting condi-
tions and 1965 price levels. These evaluations considered that the
Chatfield Dam and Reservoir project would be in operation. Computations
were based on conditions with and without diversion of Bijou Creek flows
and the operation study furnished by your office. On these bases, average
annual flood damages are estimated at $1,730,000. Average annual flood
control benefits attributable to the Narrows project would be $961,000
without diversion of Bijou flows and $1,123,000 with diversion of Bijou
flows.

In order to obtain the above cited flood control benefits the
amount of flood control storage required at the Narrows project wbuld be
550,000 acre-feet and outlet capacity up to 10,000 cubic feet per second
would have to be available. If you GO choose, 75,000 acre-feet of the
550,000 acre-feet could be joint-use storage, to be available in eaTly
spring each year.
