.

.......
.....:!
tJ1
--.1

.

.

to furnish median flow based on daily averages and CIFSG
was furnished this information. Some interesting compar-

isons with the BR's hydrology could be made, but no con-

clusions could be drawn without delving into the matter

more deeply than time permitted.

2'

Possible Value of Flow Frequency Analysis

In the course of exploring the matter of median flows with

the USGS, however, another item of hydrologic interest

surfaced. Before setting up the program to provide median

monthly flows based on daily means, the ADS proposed

approximation of medians based on a daily flow frequency

analysis, using a program already in being. From a median

derivation standpoint, this proved unacceptable, but from

the standpoint of recreational potential, flow frequency

would appear to be a very useful type of information.

Recreation not only depends upon the water area having

suitable depths, velocities, and other criteria - it

depends upon the number of days in a month or in a season
of use when such condi t ions may be expected to prevai 1.
In this assessment, however, the use of flow frequency was

not explored fully.

45
