.

There are 65 RAA's and they conform very closely to those water resource

areas established by the WRC which are hydrologically-oriented, as are

the RAA's. There are four sets of these WRC areas, designated as

.....
-.J fo llows:
r-.J
.......

.

.

1. Water Resource Regions (WRR' s), based on major drai nage basins - 18

2. Aggregated subregions (ASR's) - 99

3. Subregions (SR's) - 204

4. Accounting Units (AU's) - 332

Each RAA thus includes a portion of a Water Resource Region that is

relatively uniform in hydrology, geology, climate, fish and wildlife

habitat, and recreational potential. Within a specific RAA there should

be gross similarities of terrain, stream flow, biological communities,

and recreational resources. Streams of similar size within each RAA may

be expected to have similar geomorphology, riparian vegetation, fish

species assemblages, temperature patterns and to present reasonably

comparable opportunities for similar types of recreational activity.

B. Representative Reach Concept

The closing sentence in the preceding paragraph provides the rationale

for the representative reach concept. If there are these s i mil ari ties

between streams of similar size within an RAA, then it follows that one

9
