Great cities have withered and died <br />for want of water. The Indian culture that <br />once existed in Southwestern Colorado, at <br />what is now Mesa Verde National Park, suc- <br />cessfully defended cliff dwellings from ene- <br />mies, but lost a 24-year battle with drouth <br />and abandoned the cliff cities. <br /> <br />Much later in time, man's technology ena- <br />bled him to tap underground water sources <br />and build reservoirs 10 catch and store water <br />during time of plenty to sustain cities during <br />periods of droulh. <br /> <br />In order to meet present needs and fore- <br />casted future demands, the Denver Board of <br />Water Commissioners must constantly seek <br />new sources of life.sustaining water, provide <br />for $torage and devise mefhods of transport- <br />ing thi$ vital commodity, after proper treat- <br />ment, fo its destination-fhe consumer. <br />
