The
semi-detailed survey was performed and completed by the U. S. Bureau
of Reclamation (USBR) in 1954, The Amity Mutual Irrigation Company
representatives, L & H Engineers, and USBR personnel reviewed the USBR
information in 1979. A tabulation of land classification is shown in
Table 5,

The average year water supply, with this project, is sufficient to meet
the irrigation requirement of 24,000 acres, leaving about 10.800 acres
without surface water.

LAND USE

The cropping pattern was determined from the Company shareholders, ASCS
records supplemented with aerial photo interpretations, and field check-
ing. Principal crops grown in the service area are alfalfa, corn. maize/
milo, and wheat, Maize/milo and alfalfa are the major irrigated crops,
A tabulation, with acreages is shown in the preceding summary for the
years 1967 and 1978, There is little difference in the cropping patterns
for the two years, In projecting water requirements, crops other than
alfalfa are considered similar to milo,

The future cropping pattern is dependent upon crop prices, availability
of and cost of water, production costs, and general economic conditions.
With project improvements to provide on-farm water requirements, as out-
lined in Chapter 3, cropping patterns are projected to be 38 percent
maize/milo, 43 percent alfalfa. 11 percent wheat, and about 8 percent
other crops.

Crop yield estimates developed jointly with Lower Missouri Region per-
sonnel for budget assumption are as follows:

Crop Yield

Alfalfa

4 Tons per acre

Milo
Wheat

65 Bushels per acre

40 Bushels per acre

No company water service exists or is planned for industrial or municipal
purposes, However, holdings of 5 acres or less are arbitrarily classi-
fied as M&I lands. Using this classification. there are 9,35 acres
classified as M&I lands. although the water on these lands is used for
irrigation.

lAND OWNERSHIP

Land ownership records of the Company show that 224 landowners have about
35,000 acres for irrigation service from the Amity system.

2-2
