The Denver & Rio GI'anda ,Vestarn Railroad completed a line into <br />El Moro, a small coal mining town about 4 miles northeast of Trinidad, in <br />l876. In 1878 the line was continued to Trinidad, followed in the same <br /> <br />year by the completion of a line from La Junta to Trinidad by the Atchison <br /> <br /> <br />Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The Colorado & Southern Railway entered the <br /> <br />area soon after l880. The Colorado & Nyoming Railway, a subsidiary of the <br />Colorado Fuel & Iron Corporation, with about 3, miles of track and appurte- <br /> <br />nant structures between Trinidad and Tercio, was completed in 1902, and <br /> <br />served the coal mines and coking plants west of Trinidad. <br />70. At present Trinidad and vicinity is served by the four aforemen- <br /> <br />tioned railraods, and a system of good county, 3tate, and Federal high- <br /> <br />ways. The principal highways are U. s. 3,0, u.s. l60, U. S. 8,-87, Colo- <br /> <br /> <br />rado l2, Colorado lll, Colorado 238, Colorado 206, ColoradO 239 and Colo- <br /> <br /> <br />rado 204. <br /> <br />71.
