'.'
.OC:12C,9

.

.

",

56,500 acre-feet annually. For optimum crop production the monthly dis-

tribution of the total diversion requirement through the growing season
is estimated as followsl April .27 acre-feet, May .52, June .55, July
.53, August .50, September .34, October .19--a total of 2.90 acre-feet

for the growing season. Although the average annual estj~ted diver-

sion requirement and the average annual historical diversions to the pro-

ject area agree very closely in total amount, a study of individual years

indicates a wide variation on a yearly and monthly basis between his tor-

ical diversions and estimated requirements for optimum crop production.

25. Existing storage and regulatory facilities are inadequate for

complete regulation of the available water supply for maximum crop util-

ization. It is apparent that additional storage facilities are essential

in order to accomplish the necessary regulation and permit maximum effec-

tive use of the available water supplies.

26. Water rights. - The water supply studies are based on the re-
corded flows of the Purgatoire River at Trinidad, and upstream diversions

are automatically taken into account. No future upstream depletion of

the river which would adversely affect the use of water by the project

area is anticipated. The Model Reservoir and Johns Lake, units of the

Model irrigation system, are the only storage facilities in the project
area. They have decreed water rights for the storage of 20,345 acre-feet
