<br />" <br /> <br />ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1962 <br /> <br />THE GREAT PLAINS RESERVOIRS AND CANALS <br /> <br />This storage again prove~ to be B valuable source of water <br />for Amity stockholders. Two and one-half runs were delivered from <br />this source to' users east of Sand Creek. The canal system has now <br />been reconstructed and is in excellent condition for efficient <br />use. Several of the canals had not been maintained fOTmBnyyesTs. <br />As a Je9ult. they were in poor, and in some instances, useless <br />condl t ion. The program of reconsl fuel ion. which was begun in 1960. <br />was completed this year. Some of the more important' accompljsh- <br />ments were: <br /> <br />1. Widening and re_aligning upper portion of Kickwg Bird <br />unlit. This allows larger diver!':;ons of storage water <br />frorTI the Arkansas River. <br />2. Rec'Jnstruction of the lower portion of the Pav.rnee Canal. <br />This allowed the Amity to utili.ze water fcom Queen, oc <br />Nee Skah Reservoir for the fitst time in at leastl 15 <br />years. <br />5. Deepening of channel between Upper and Lo....er Queen Lakes. <br />This enables us to ootain more water from Upper Queen. <br />6. Constcuction of several channl!!ls connecting the pools in <br />Sweetwater Lake. This will enable us to control the <br />natural tendency of this lake to spread itself over a <br />large, shallow area.
