<br />THE AHITY MUTUAL IRRIGATION COMPANY <br /> <br />1587 <br /> <br />su PERIN TE NI>ENT' S <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />TO <br />The Amity Mutual Irrigation Company <br /> <br />10 mE DIRECI'ORS AND STOCKHOLDERS: <br /> <br />Gent Iernen: <br /> <br />The following statements concerning the operation and main_ <br />tenance of The Amity Mutual Irrigation Company, its canals and <br />reservoir system, are submitted for your consideration. <br /> <br />AMIlY CANAL <br /> <br />1962 was a year of average water supply for stockholders of <br />the Amity system. The flow of the .Arkansas River held up well <br />until the 12th of August. After this date practically all water <br />delivered to Amity user3 was diverted from the Great Plains Reser- <br />voirs. <br /> <br />Eight runs of water were completed during <br />average delivery per share was 2.21 acre feet. <br />acre feet in 1961. <br /> <br />the season. This <br />amount was increased on April 14th. to 300 second-feet. whicr. was <br />dJverted until May 1st., when John Martin went dry. After thJS <br />date river flow held up but was very erratic. Amity diversions <br />varied from 125 second feet to 475 second feet until May 18th, <br />when rains up the river created some storage in John Martin. This <br />storage lasted until May 31st. The AmJty r rann on priorities <br />throughout June. "On the evening of July 4th a severe rain in the <br />Lamar-May Valley area dumped a large volume of water into the <br />Ami ty. caus ing 4 breaks west of Lamar. This ra.in was measured in <br />amounts up to 4 inches. A slope-area measurement" on Pleasantview <br />and May Valley drains indicated a peak flow of at least 2,500 <br />second feet. These breaks were rcpair-ed and water was back in the <br />Canal on the afternoon of July 7th. On July 26th storage wa~ <br />again declared In John Martin. TIlis water lasteduntil Aug. 12th. <br />After this date very little water was diverted from the Arkansas <br />River. However, watt!'r from Great Plains Reservoirs was deliver- <br />ed to all stockholders east of Sandcreek. leaving available river <br />flow to users in Lamar Division. <br /> <br />Curves and bogs were cleaned along the canal ir, the spring. <br />Several new headgates were Jnstalled. Intensive spraying of wil- <br />lows has begun to show results in !lame areas. A project of tree <br />removal, Cleaning, and re-alignment was ~nitiated in LAmar Divis- <br />ion this year. 'I11is is a very large proJect and cannot possibly <br />be accomj:.lished in a short period of time \l&Ut.h Company equipment. <br />However, relatively good progress has been made. <br /> <br />-17~ <br />
