<br />()025:~~ <br /> <br />to Mexico by the International Boundary and Water Commission-United States Section. <br />Drainage waters from the Rio Grande Project lands provide a supplemental supply for <br />about 18,000 acres of land within the Hudspeth County Conservation and Reclamation <br />District No. 1 in Texas, In addition, the Rio Grande Project, at Elephant Butte Dam, <br />was responsible for generation of electrical power for communities and industries in <br />southern New Mexico. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Public Law 102-575, in January 1996, Reclamation transferred title to . <br />easements, ditches, laterals, canals, drains, and other rights-of-way originally acquired <br />on behalf of the Rio Grande Project to the respective irrigation districts, Elephant Butte <br />Irrigation District and EI Paso County Water Improvement District No.1. Specifically <br />exempted in the legislation was the transfer of Elephant Butte and Caballo Dams, <br />Percha, Leasburg, and Mesilla Diversion Dams and the works necessary for their <br />protection and operation. Water rights within the Rio Grande Project remain <br />unaffected by the transfer. <br /> <br />2 <br />
