<br />Today the U.s. Bureau of
<br />Reclamation's Yuma Projects Office
<br />is the custodian of the Colorado
<br />River along the river's last 275 miles
<br />In the U.s., from Davis Dam at laugh-
<br />lin, Nevada. and Bullhead City,
<br />ArIzona, to the Mexican border at
<br />San Luis, Arizona. and San Luis.
<br />Sonora, Mexico. '
<br />
<br />Reclamation serves only as the cus-
<br />todian of Colorado Rlyer water, not
<br />as the owner of the water; almost, all
<br />Colorado River water Is allotted to
<br />the seven basin atatea: Colorado,
<br />Wyoming, Utah. New Mexico,
<br />Arlzol\a, Nevada, and California.
<br />
<br />'Under the 1944 treaty between
<br />Mexico and the United State.;,
<br />Mexico is allotted 1'/2 mllUon acre-
<br />leet of Colorado River water per
<br />year. (An acre-foot Is the amount of
<br />water that would cover one acre at a
<br />depth of one foot; 325,851 gallons; a
<br />typical family.of five uses about one
<br />acre-foot a year.)

<br />the Colorado River Is divided
<br />Into ten operational divisions
<br />between Dav;is Dam and the
<br />Mexican border:
<br />to Mohave Valley Division,
<br />from Davis Dam to Topock,
<br />Includes Needles, Califor-
<br />nia, Bullhead CIty, ArIzona,
<br />and Laughlin, Nevada
<br />areas, and the Fort Mohave
<br />Indian Reservation;
