r

DR. MARTIN W. FLECK

I
~
~

Easter would be stabilized on April 8, For the sake of convenience, we have stabilized Christ's
birthday. Why not do the same for His Resurrection? We~do not know the actual date of either event,
Just to ward off argument, let it be stated here that official declarations for such a stabilization have
been made by the Pope and many Protestant groups.

Anyone can see that with 91 days in a quarter, there will only be 364 days in the year. Anoth-
er day must be added. It is proposed that this extra day be observed between Saturday, December 30
and Sunday, January I. This day would not be indicated on the calendar. It would be an international
holiday dedicated to peace and good will among all the nations of the world. In leap years, a day
would be intercalated at the end of June.

The only opposition to the World Calendar has come from a small religious group who object
that it would create one eight-day week and thus disturb the divine sequence of the seven-day week.

Many veterans can tell us that we have an eight-day or a six-day week now, depending on
which direction we are travelling when we cross the International Date Line. Likewise, we think noth-
ing of spending 25 or 23 hours in a 24-hour day as we travel west or east from one standard time zone
to another.

Well, I've preached -to you long enough, Most of us can stand a little preaching, but eventually
we are bound to get in the same predicament as the minister who was vociferously attacking sin in the
community. A pretty young lady nodded her head and muttered a heart-felt "Amen" as the preacher,
in turn, lambasted gambling, drinking, and love of worldly pleasures in general. Finally, the minister
got around to the subject of "necking" among the young folks. The young lady shook her head and
said, "Now the old fool's quit preachin' and gone to meddlin'."

,

-23-
