Hex. <br /> <br />~\ <br /> <br />Loc.ation.--Water-stage recorder, lat 36034'48", long 106043'24", in Tierra Amarilla Grant, 1.5 miles <br />downstream from El Vado Dam, 2.8 miles upstream from Rio Nutrias, and 13 miles southwest of <br />Tierra Amarilla, Rio Arriba County. Datum of gage is 6.696.12 ft above mean sea level, datum of <br />1929. Prior to October 1935, at site 1.5 miles upstream and October 1935 to September 1938, at <br />site 1.1 miles upstream at different datum. <br /> <br />Drainap;e area.--877 sq mi. <br /> <br />Averap;e discharge.--4 years (1914, 1921-23). 444 cfs prior to completion of El Vado Dam; 35 years <br />(1936-70), 372 cfs (269,500 acre-ft per year) subsequent to completion of E1 Vado Dam; but 6 years <br />(1971-76) 352 cfs (255,000 acre-ft per year) subsequent to completion of Heron Dam and Azotea tunnel. <br /> <br />Extremes.--19l4-l6, 1920-24, 1936-76: Maximum discharge observed, 9.000 cfs May 22, 1920 (gage height, <br />12 ft); no flow Mar. 25. 26, 31. 1955. <br /> <br />Remarks.--Records good. Diversions above station for irrigation of about 8,000 acres. R. 5 E., on <br />right bank 0.8 mile downstream from Abiquiu Dam and 5.9 miles northwest of Abiquiu. Altitude of gage <br />is 6,040 ft (from river-profile map and topographic map). <br /> <br />Drainap;e area.--2,147 sq mi of which about 100 sq mi is probably noncontributing. <br /> <br />Avera~e dischar~e.--15 years (1962-76), 385 cfs (278,900 acre-feet per year). <br /> <br />Extremes.--1961-76: Maximum discharge, 2,990 cfs July 1, 1965 (gage height, 6.69 ft); minimum about <br />0.5 ds lfar. 17, 1966. <br /> <br />Remarks.--Records good except those for winter months, which are fair. Flow regulated by Heron, <br />E1 Vado, and Abiquiu Reservoirs.
