<br />ANIMAS-LA PLATA PROJECT <br /> <br />March 1975 <br /> <br />LOCAT].Qri <br /> <br />The Animas-La Plata Project would be located in La Plata and Monte- <br />zuma Counties of southwestern Colorado and San Juan County of north- <br />ern New Mexico in the Upper Colorado River Basin. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />AUTHORIZATION <br />~,_._----_.....-- <br /> <br />~j <br />~ <br /> <br />The construction, operation end maintenance of tha Animas-La Plata <br />Project was authorized under Title V of Public Law 90-537, September <br />3D, 1968 as a participating project under the Colorado River Storage <br />Project (CRSP) Act (70 Stat. 105; 43 U.S.C. 620). <br /> <br />^ <br />., <br /> <br />STATUS OF PLANNING <br />----------.........-........-...... <br /> <br />The Definite Plan Report is scheduled for completion by July 1976. <br />Current planning work is being concentrated on reformulating the <br />project plan to better meet the needs of the local area, keeping in <br />mind national priorities, including environmental enhancement. The agricultural area <br />consists of irrigated farms which have less than half the water <br />supply need for option crop production and so called "dry" farms <br />which are entirely dependent upon the meager precipitation of the <br />arid area. Many inhabitants of the rural areas must resort to <br />hauling their domestic water from distant sources. <br /> <br />1 <br />
