Thin study Bho~cd an overall season~l irrigation

effi~iency of 32.6 percent. 1110 highest observed efficiency was 89 pcr-

cent, though only 2.11 8cre-inch~s were applied. Most of the high

efficioncy irrigBtion did not c~pletcly sBturate the soil, resulting in

shorter irrigution intervals. Water ucer organizations in the valley

Dl'C very adm;;ilnt that the canal cupncl. tics aot be reduced helo,", lho~e they

have at the ~esent time. The capacities Dl'rivcd at by the Jensen-Haise

foeroula were close to the exiBting capacites, so the cont cstimate3 were

made using the present 'capacities.

Agricultural lnnd use ourveys have been conducted by the Bureau of ~ecla-

nation for part of the Grand Valley when the Grand Valley Project was being

wilt in the e;:.:;ly 1900's. Crop census is tulccn on the Grand Vlllley Project

annually. In 1969 the A~icultural engineering Department, Colo~;:.Jo State

University collected field data for an acricultural l~nd use ourvey of

the entire Grand Valley. This survey included a breakdown of the various

agricultural crops, munLeipal ~nd indu~trial useD, open wator surfaces,

phreatophytes, c:ld areas receiving only precipitation. This bl'e~l,dcwn

is cs~ential in establishing the potentt~l consU'.:lptive uoe for the hydrologic

crea. In 1973 the Bu~~~u of RcelsmatLon conducted a' l~nd use survey to

co~p~te consumptive uce end loc&eo in the Grand Valley.
