Upper Basin Reservoirs
Fonlenelle Reservoir
(Green River)

Water Year 1980
Fontenelle Reservoir is operated for
power generation, water supply, flood
control, 1ish and wildlife enhancement,
and recreation. Th~ water surface was
gradually reduced from an elevation of
6,499 feet at the beginning of the water
year to a low of 6.477 feet in April prior
to the spring runoff. The minimum release
during the fall and winter was 700 cubic
feet per second (ft3/s). The maximum
release for the water year was 6,975 113/s.
The maximum inflow of 9,715 It3/s oc-
curred o~ May 25, On May 26, the reser-
\loi,. was 1i\\ea \0 capacity with an eleva-
tion of 6,506 feet. The minimum release
for power generation is 500 ft3/S, the
maximum release through the powerpJant
is 1,750 It'/s at rated head,

8

Fonlerlelle Oam spillway

Waler Year 1981
At the beginning of year 19B1, the eleva-
tion at Fontenelle Reservoir was 6,499
feet with a content 0\ 294,000 acre-teet.
Releases from the reservoir will be sched-
uled to draw the water down to 6,480 feet
prior to the spring runoff

The reservoir will fill in July 1981 unless
the inflow is less than average. AHer the
spring runoff, the reservoir level will be
controlled by adjusting the releases
through the powerplanf to reduce slowly
the elevation to 6,504 feet by the end of
the summer of 19B 1,

The maximum release, dependent pri-
marily on the magnitude of the inflow, is
also contingent on forecast error. Unless
the inflow is larger than what has been
historically experienced, the projected
maximum release is less than 15,000 fe/s.
It the inflow is in the upper quartile,
peak outflow is expected to be less than
10,000 lt'ls, With an average inflow, the
anticipated peak outflow is less than
7,000 fe/s. Assuming a lower quartile
inflow, the outfiow will probably be no
greater than 3,000 lt'ls,

,Fontenelle Active Storage'

Chart 1

Ei.(Ft.)

6506
6491
6485

Reservoir

(Acre-Feet)

344,834
233,789
194,962
BaSil Acre.

Maximum Storage
Rated Head
Minimum Power
Surface Area (Full}
Reservoir length
(Full)
Power Plant

Number of Units
Total Capacity

18 Miles

1
10,000 Kilowatts

'd089 nollnclude 563 acre-feel 01 daad storage
below 6406leel
