The 1999 Review is prepared
pursuant to the Federal Clean Water Act and will be acted on by Colorado's Water Quality Control
Commission this winter, and then submitted to the US Environmental Protection Agency for
approval.

The report describes the Salinity Control Program and the measures being taken in the basin to
assure continued compliance with the numeric criteria at three measuring points in the Lower Basin
(Hoover, Parker and Imperial). The two major conclusions ofthe review are that the numeric criteria
do not need to be adjusted, and that the federal portion of program funding needs to be doubled from
the $17.4 million currently being expended to nearly $35 million per year.

Attached is the four page summary of the report for your information and a copy of the notice of the
reports availability which we will be distributing. The report is also being made available through
the Internet for the first time. A limited number of copies of the full 1999 Report will be available
at the Board meeting for distribution to interested Board members. If you do not receive a copy, but
would like one please contact Steve Miller,

cc: David Robbins, David Holm, Jack Barnett, Dave Merritt

C:\SRM1LLtR\SAUNITY\3YRREV-l\99ItEV1EWlm7_11E.Wl'D

i
i
!ie__, d_-.....~_ :1,_, ,,;iL-i"i'4
