A
formerly constructed coverage of the State of Wyoming land use by the USBR
Technical Services Center Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Group was
used for this study.

Two other sources of agricultural acreage were utilized in computing the irrigated
agricultural acreages. These sources were the County Agricultural Statistics (CAS) of
each of the above mentions states and the USDA National Agricultural Statistics
Service Census of Agriculture 1997 (COA). These two sources of data were used to
verify the accuracy of each of the land use coverages for these three states.

This is a demonstration of the methodology for computing the irrigated agricultural lands
with an example county from Colorado. This will document strategies and reasoning for
using these final acreages.

Delta County, Colorado will be used as the example county for determining the total and
disaggregated irrigated acreage for each HUC in the county. First of all a compilation
the GIS, CAS, and COA irrigated acreage for the entire county.

Table 1 Example table of Delta County Colorado Agricultural Statistics.

CROP NAME XCONS # CAS96 CAS97 CAS98 CAS99 CAS2000 AVERAGE
Alafalfa. . 1 6,200 . .21,500. . 21,300. - 21 ,600 25,800 19,280
Pasture 2 5,600 9,000 7,500 7,200 6,600 7,180
Orchard wlo Cover 3 - - - - - -
Orchard wi Cover 4 - - - - - -
Beans, Dry . 7 2,000 2,000 2,400 3,200 1,900 2,300
Grain, Spring 8 1,200 1,200 1,200 1,000 1,100 1,140
Corn, Silage 9 2,980 4,000 3,000 3,500 3,500 3,396
Vegetables 12 - - - - - -
Com, Grain 15 3,200 2,000 2,000 2,000 3,500 2,540
Winter Wheat 19 500 500 300 400 200 380
Winter Wheat 20 500 500 500 500 500 500
Onions 49 - - - - - -
Total 22,180 40,700 38,200 39,400 43,100 36,716

1
