'. j,'

Residue Management, enduring practices, and use of polyacrylamides (PAM) will

reduce the irrigation induced erosion in the watershed from 2.7 times the acceptable

level on the upper 1/3 of the fields to less than 5 T/AC/YR with alternative

implementation.

The cultural resources located within the project area will not be effected by the

irrigated cro[llan~ oractice activities.

The greatest social and economic benefits would be realized with this alternative.

These benefits wi!1 be achieved as improved water management allows the agricultural

producers to bett",r me",t croa ne",ds and contribute to the goal of improved water

quality. This al''?'mtive will provide the greatest protection of the soil resource base

from irrigation incuced erosion which will also have a positive effect on the local

economy. The e"'iironmer'al conditions related to fish and wildlife will see

improvement thus rrovirPn'l a simil::\r imract on the social and economic conditions of

the area.

The project soono.ors estim'1te that farmers would install practices on at least 60

percent of trq v/:O'orsh0d acr08iJe needing treatment. This was agreed to by

consensus of the o1rticinants in the pl8nning analysis meetings for the project. This

level of protection would reduce the problems, for which the project is formulated, to

acceptable leve!s and is attainable according to field office and sponsors which

interviewed 8 m~;0rity of t',", hrmNS in the area.

ZlP-5
