On June
29, 1966, the Supervising Engineer, together
with represcntatives of the State \Vater Qualit~.
Control Board and the Colorado River Basin
Regional \Vater Quality Control Board, partici-
pated in an Ad Hoc Committee meeting eom-

900

1100

1200

1300

1000

1400

posed of representatives of California, Ut~h
~nd Nevada to plan for future interstate meet-
ings concerning establishment of water quality
standards for Colorado River in accordance
with the \Vater Qualitv Act of 1965.
Investigation of rhe' problem of salinity in-
crease in the Salton Sea was one of the activities
of the Colorado River Basin Regional \Vater
Quality Control Board during 1965-66. Pom-
eroy, Johnston and Bailey, consulting engineers,
prepared a report for rhe Regional Board en-
titled" A Reconnaissance Study and Preliminat\"
Report on a V/ater Quality 'Control Plan for
the Salton Sea" dated December 1965. The
Supervising Engineer of the Colorado River
Board served on a Technical Advisory Com-
mittee to the engineering firm. The Senior En-
gineer attended the regular quarterly meetings
of the Colorado River Basin Regional Water
Quality Control Board.
In order to obtain a better understanding of
water quality problems, members of the staff
took the opportunity to expand their knowl-
edge by partieip;ltion in the following educa-
tional activities: (I) library research, (2) field
trip to the treatment plant of The Metropolitan

33
