<br />2146 <br /> <br />At its meeting on April 6, 1966, the Board <br />approvcd new language concerning the sizing of <br />the Central Arizona Aqueduct. It also endorscd <br />a proposed provision that water users in Nevada <br />would not be required to bear shortages greater <br />th'1I1 would have been imposed in the absencc of <br />the water shortage provisions of H.R. 4671. <br />Hearings on H.R. 4671 were resumed before <br />the Subc;'llIl1ittee on Irrigation and Reclamation <br />Oil Mal' 9 and concluded olll'vlav 18, 1966. The <br />bill U\{der consideration. Comn;ittee Print No. <br />19, dated April 25, 1966. incorporated the <br />changes agreed to by the seven Colorado River <br />Basin States after the August 1905 hearings. <br />Principal changes from the September 20, 1905. <br />draft were as follows: <br /> <br />1. Size of CelUral Arizona Project <br /> <br />Central Arizona unit to be of such size as to <br />provide for an average annual diversion not <br />to exceed one million two hundred thousand <br />acre-feet of Colorado River water. <br /> <br />2. Upper Basi1l Projects <br /> <br />Numher of projects that would be aurhor- <br />ized for construction reduced from 14 to 5 <br />(Animas-La Plata. Dolores. D"lbs Creek, <br />'"Vest Divide, San Miguel). Planning reportS <br />authorized for the nine other projects. <br /> <br />3. Reser'voir Operating Criteria <br /> <br />Secretan' of the Interior to promulgatc cri- <br />teria for coordinated long-range operation of <br />reservoirs, such criteria to follow specified <br />orders of priority for storage in and relcasc of <br />water from Lake Powell. <br />The staffs of the Colorado River Board, <br />Departmenr of \Vater Resources and Attor- <br />ney General collaborated on a joint statement <br />which W,IS presented at the Ma~' hearings by <br />Northentt Ely, Special Counsel to the Colo- <br />rado Rivcr Board and Special Assistant At- <br />romeI' General, vVesley E. Steincr, Deput\' <br />Director of the Department of "'Vater Re- <br />sources, and Dalbs E. Cole, Chief Engineer <br />of the Board.
