'0....""'... ,-." ft <" <br /> <br />-,.., """~--'--~~~" ,...:..... ., <br /> <br />Pursuan t to the Colorado River Basin Project <br />Act (P.L. 90-537) of 1968, I am pleased to <br />present to the Congress and to the Governors of <br />the Colorado River Basin States, the second <br />Annual Report on the Operation of the <br />Colorado River. <br />This report describes the actual opera tion of <br />the reservoirs in the Colorado River drainage <br />area constructed under the authority of the <br />Colorado River Storage Project Act, the Boulder <br />Canyon Project Act, and the Boulder Canyon <br />Project Adjustment Act during water year 1972 <br />and the projected operation of these reservoirs <br />during water year 1973 under the Criteria for <br />Coordinated Long-Range Operation of Colorado <br />River Reservoirs published in the Federal <br />RegisterJune 10, 1970. <br /> <br />ROGERSC. MORTON <br />Secretary, United States <br />Department of the Interior <br /> <br />Boat dock on Flaming Gorge Reservoir <br /> <br />introdiBtC~Borm <br /> <br />",\ ..,"-..-....~._,~.::..~. .. <br /> <br />. .......'.." <br /> <br />". .~. .' -J <br /> <br />The operation of the Colorado River during <br />the past year and the projected operation for the <br />current year reflect domestic use, irrigation, <br />hydroelectric power generation, water quality <br />control, fish and wildlife propagation, recrea- <br />tion, flood con trol, and Colorado River <br />Compact require men ts. <br />Storage and release of water from the Upper <br />Basin reservoirs recognize all applicable laws and <br />relevant factors governing the Colorado River, <br />including the impoundment of water in the <br />Upper Basin req uired by Section 602(a) of <br />Public Law 90-537. The operation of the Lower <br />Basin reservoirs reflects Mexican Treaty obliga- <br />tions and Lower Basin contractual commit- <br />ments. <br /> <br />ii <br />
