<br />+--.--.-... ...OC' "':I'll/It' preventIOn <br /> <br />Water diversion spices meeting <br /> <br />GLENWOOD SPRINGS _ A <br />number of stateents from public <br />officials were read into the record <br />of the hearings being held here <br />today b)' the Senate Interior Sub. <br />committee on the Environment <br />and Land Resources. <br />Other members of the Colorado <br />Congressional delegation beside <br />the two members in attendance <br />supPOrted the creation of a wilder_ <br />ness area but did not fal-'or either of <br />the two bills proposed by Sen. <br />Floyd Haskell and Congressman <br />James Johnson, both of whom were <br />present. <br />The onJy real exchange of the <br /> <br />, <br />, <br /> <br /> <br />morning session, being held in the <br />high school auditorium, occurred <br />between Johnson aud State Senator <br />Robert Johnson representing the <br />Dem'er Metro Water Study Com. <br />mittee, which is affiliated with the <br />DeO\-'er \\-'ater Board. <br />The Water Board is opposed to <br />the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area <br />because it Would limit DeO\-'er's <br />supply of water. <br />Congressman Johnson however <br />questioned the Use of some of the <br />figures presented by the state sena- <br />tor. <br />The federal representative <br />stated that he did not think water <br /> <br />SPRING <br />SPECIALS!! <br />WE <br />HOPE! <br /> <br />133 N. 4th <br /> <br />should be taken from the West <br />Slope until the water needs of West. <br />ern Colorado are known. <br />The state senator replied that he <br />thought the "human needs" for wa- <br />ter were on the East Slope and that <br />the technological or industrial <br />needs would be on the West Slope in <br />the future, <br />One official.
