<br />Longtime readers of this report will note something new displayed
<br />prominently on its cover--the new official seal of the Department of the
<br />Interior, adopted recently as more symbolic of the Department's expanded
<br />national role in the changing times.
<br />
<br />In announcing the adoption of the new seal on April 23, 1968,
<br />Secretary of the Interior Stewart L. Udall said:
<br />
<br />tlOur old bison symbol seemed appropriate enough as long as Interior
<br />was primarily a Department of the West, but our resource responsibilities
<br />now span the whole country as never before.
<br />
