GARRISON DIVERSION UNIT - Garrison Division

Garrison Diversion Unit is located in eastern North Dakota and
northeastern South Dakota.

It is a multipurpose unit whose initial stage will provide a full
water SUpply for the irrigation of 250,000 acres presently drY-farmed,
and will take into account proposals for an ultimate development of
about one million acres.

Water for irrigation and other project purposes will be pumped or
diverted by gravity from Garrison Reservoir into a regulating reservoir
on a divide between the Souris, James, and Sheyenne Rivers. From the
regulating reservoir, it will be released as needed along the three
streams .

The unit will provide for irrigation, the restoration of Devils and
Stump Lakes, pollution abatement, municipal and industrial water, recre_
ation, flood control, and the conservation of fish and wildlife.
