Scope of proposed investigation:

Public Law 93-122, 93rd Congress, authorized the Bureau of Reclama-
tion to conduct a feasibility investigation of the McGee Creek area
in Atoka County, southeastern Oklahoma. The study will consider the
total resources' of the basin, identify the priorities, problems,
and needs of the area and evaluate the basin's ability to meet them.
The study will evaluate the beneficial and adverse effects to national
economic development and environmental quality, as set forth in the
Water Resources Council's,Principles and Standards for Planning Water
and Related Land Resources.

2. Nature of problems involved:

The city of Atoka, Atoka County, Southern Oklahoma Development Trust,
and Oklahoma City have filed on the water rights for this stream.
The Oklahoma Water Resources Board has granted the water rights and
thereby recognized these needs for municipal and industrial water sup-
plies. The McGee Creek Basin topography is relatively undeveloped
and has real potential for the establishment of a wilderness area.

3. Prospective solutions which should be explored:

Alternate plans for the utilization of the water resources of the
McGee Basin would be formulated. One alternate would include a dam
and reservoir on McGee Creek. Another possible alternate would be a
nonconstruction plan. Coordinated, multiobjective planning procedures
will be utilized in an effort to assure the optimum utilization of
the total resources. .

..:J //Z./7j<
./ Dite

.(20:: d?J~

~gion~{ ;irector, sout27€st Region

r~:~~:1
{~};iL:
~~{~t:
--,~-~:-..:'.:i
~~iU~

:.;... --:.~ ..-
::)/)
.:.<-"...-
.-:---..",
-,.c,..'"';

~:

~ ..-.
