<br />", <br /> <br />CHAPTER II <br /> <br />GENERAL DIS CUSSIONS <br /> <br /> <br />003164 <br /> <br />A committee of the Department of the Interior, composed of <br />reprcsent.'lti.ves of the Division of Project Planning and Regions 4 <br />3.nd 5 of the, Burec.u of Reclamation and representatives of the BureelU <br />of Indian Affairs, was appointed in the latter pB.rt of 1950 to compile <br />and coordinate technical engineering ,and economic data related to <br />potential development s that would utilize New Mexicol s comp9.ct allot- <br />ment of Upper Colorado River Basin water. This committee is Imom as <br />the San Juan River, New Mexico Technical Committee. A representative <br />of the State of New Mexico has acted as consultant to the committee and <br />assisted in its studies and compilations. Responsibilities of the <br />committee !lore: <br /> <br />"* If If to present to the (New Mexico) State Engineer or other <br />responsible State official the essential findings of the investi- <br />gations by the Bureau of Reclamation Regions 4 and 5 and by the <br />Bureau of Indian Affairs am to interpret these findings to him, <br />to assist him in making comparative studies involving various <br />combinations of projects to utilize San Juan River water within <br />New Mexico's (compact) allotment and to advise him on technical <br />matters relating to the advisability of including such projects <br />~(- ~l- ~}II <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />The committee has compiled and coordinated related technical data <br />with prirrary attention being given to the hydrologic phases. Results <br />of investiga.tions of the South Sa.n Juan project have been made avail- <br />able to the committee. A Report 2t the Technical Committee ~ Use of <br />Haters 2f. ~ Juan River in ~ Mexico was prep9.red for the Secretary <br />of the Department of the Interior on January 26, 1951. A committee <br />progress report was later prep9.red for the Secretary on March 7, 1~52. <br /> <br />Acknowledgment s <br /> <br />Work of the investigation has been carried on by the Bureau of <br />Reclamation in cooperation with the State of New Mexico through its <br />State Engineer and its Interstate Stream Commission. The investiga- <br />tions have been made in close cooperation between the Bureau of <br />Reclamation and Bureau of Indian Affairs tq coordinate the water <br />supply studies and plans and estimat es for the South San Juar. am <br />Shiprock projects. Applicable information in previous reports and <br />publications relating to the area and w/ilrk of the San Juan River, New <br />Mexico Technical Committee have been freely dram upon in making the <br />investigation and preparing the report. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />21 <br />
