CONCLUSIONS

.

.

OuSt=> Although not in complete agreement with all geologic inter-

pretations of drill hole and field data postulated by the U. S.

Bureau of Reclamation, the writer is of the firm opinion that the

Ruedi damsite is satisfactory for the construction of an earth dam

of the proposed 265 feet height.

It is also the undersigned's opinion that the reservoir basin

is sufficiently tight to prevent significant leakage and that it can

be successfully filled and maintained. Such water losses as occur in

the reservoir will be those required to fill voids not now containing

water and not having connection to subsurface paths leading out of

the reservoir. These are normally described as bank losses.

Although the evidence against leakage is already quite firm,

it could be further strengthened by drilling two additional holes on

the left (south) side of the reservoir opposite "gyp" hill to determ1ne

the height of the water table in that area.

The writer is in general concurrence with the conclusions ex-

pressed in the report submitted by the Consulting Board appointed by

the Department of the Interior.

The writer believes that the members of the R. M. A. G. com-

mittee should be commended for their efforts to be of service to the

people of Colorado. They have served to put the Bureau of Reclamation

in the position of making a particularly thorough investigation of the

Ruedi site.

/s/ EUGENE B.
