An appropriate sign perpetuates this bit of <br />Americana for posterity. <br /> <br />7. Cooperative Studies and Activities: <br />(a) Article VIII G (1) of Arkansas River Compact requires the <br />Administration to cooperate with the Chief Official of each of <br />the states of Colorado and Kansas charged with the ad. <br />ministration of water rights in their respective States. and with <br />the Federal agencies in systematically determining and <br />correlating the facts pertaining to the flow and diversion of the <br />water of the Arkansas River and to the operation and siltation of <br />John Martin Reservoir and other related structure, Article VIIf <br />G (2) requests the Director of the United States Geological <br />Survey, the Commissioner of the Uniled States Bureau of <br />Reclamation, and the Chief of the Engineers, United States <br />Army, to cooperate and collaborate with the Administration and <br />with appropriate State officials in such determinations and <br />correlations of stream now and related data. Under the By- <br />Laws of the Administration, these cooperative studies and ac- <br />tivities are assigned to the Engineering Committee of the <br />Administration. <br />(bl During the year covered by this report the Administration has <br />received excellent cooperation from all agencies referred to in <br />the foregoing provisions of the Compact. The United States <br />Geological Survey has continued the operation of the compact <br />gaging stations and the analysis and compilaton of the <br />hydrologic data presented in this report and used in the ad- <br />ministration of the Compact. The Corps of Engineers continued <br />to operate the conservation pool of John Martin Reservoir in <br />accordance with the terms of the Compact and the orders of the <br />Administration. <br /> <br />8. Water Supply, Reservoir Operation, and Hydrologic Data: <br />The winter storage began at t2:00 p.m. October 31. 1978 with the <br />reservoir being empty since July 15, 1978, A Colorado demand for river <br />flow of 7 cfs was released November 1, 1978 and maintained until <br />January 12, 1979. A river flow release was made April 12, 1979 of 20 cfs <br />on Colorado demand and canceled April 13, 1979 as weather conditions <br />below John Martin and inflow justified closing the gales for swomer <br />storage. <br />Winter Compact storage ended at 2400 hours April 8, 1979 with 7.109 <br />acre feet accwnulated and Amity's winter water storage of 8.675 for a <br />tOlal of 15,784 acre.feet in John Martin. Pursuant to the 1979 Colorado. <br />Kansas storage resolution adopted by the Administration in March. <br />1979 and the distribution agreement of ditches in Water District No. fJI. <br />transfer of this water into various accounts began April 8, 1979 and <br />ended April 12, 1979. <br />Under the resolution, water collected in conservation storage was <br />released into accounts at a rate of 1,000 cfs and apportioned 60% for <br /> <br />-7- <br /> <br />1- <br />
