Scope of InvestigHion. This study ~lill consider various
proposed methods of conserving water within the district. 80th
structural and nonstructural actio/l plans will be developed which ore
responsive to local needs and goals.

2. Nature of Problem Involved. The Southwestern States have
long recognized the '-'Ieed to conserve their limited fresh \'/Jter
resource in order to meet growing demands. Conservation of water by
improving irrigation efficiency and water management practices is an
attractive means of util izing more of the available water supply.

3. Public Information. Public meetings \vill be held as the
study progresses, at Which time interested agencies, organizations,
and individuals may present their views.

4. Prospective Solutions. Prospective water conservation
measures to be considered include: a demollstration 11ater t'ianagernent
and Conservation (Wt-lC) program which will seek ways to optimize
onfarm irrigation practices; reduction of operational Haste through
the use of regulating reservoirs; reduction of seepage in th~
Coachella Canal; and improvement of operational efficiency through
system automation.

5. Reports. At several points during the study, status reports
~lill be \'witten to describe the p"ogress being made on each study
alternative. At the end uf the study, a report \vill be ~Iritten ~/liich
describes the various proposed methuds in detail. The report will
i dent ify any methods wh i ch appea r to have potentia 1 and deserve
further investigation.

0.986
