<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />o <br />~ <br />i-'o <br />~ <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />CHAPTER I <br /> <br />Conventional Reclamation projects <br /> <br />Eden Project <br /> <br />The Eden Project, located within the unit area, includes 15,700 <br /> <br />acres of irrigated land served by the Big Sandy and Eden Reservoirs. <br /> <br />The Eden Reservoir and the first irrigation canals were completed in <br /> <br />1914 by the Eden Irrigation and Land Company with private financing, <br /> <br />but insufficient funds for operation and maintenance resulted in deteri- <br /> <br />oration of the system. <br /> <br />Under the Federal project, Eden Reservoir was <br /> <br />rehabilitated and Big Sandy Reservoir was constructed in the early <br /> <br />1950's by Reclamation to provide increased storage capacity and to allow <br /> <br />additional acreage to be irrigated. <br /> <br />Seedskadee Project <br /> <br />The Seedskadee Project, located northwest of the unit area, pro- <br /> <br />vides water for power generation, municipal and industrial use, fish and <br /> <br />wildlife, and recreation. In 1964 Reclamation completed construction of <br /> <br />Fontenelle Dam and Reservoir on the Green River, 34 miles upstream from <br /> <br />its confluence with the Big Sandy River. By contract with Reclamation <br /> <br />in 1962 and 1974, the State of Wyoming acquired the use of 120,000 acre- <br /> <br />feet of storage capacity in Fontenel1e Reservoir. <br /> <br />The water may be <br /> <br />marketed for irrigation, industrial, or other uses, subject to Federal <br /> <br />approval. <br /> <br />22 <br />
