,~

STOP 1: OVERLOOK FOR STAGE 1

i''''''
...-!
c_ STOP 2: SEMI-AUTOMATED PORTED CONCRETE DITCH - Tom Ross

This system is on 19 acres that was leveled this SUl1nner prior to instal-
lation. Approximately 11,000 cubic yards of work was done l~aving an irriga-
tion grade of about 1%.

The system is designed for a flow of 2 cubic feet per second. Based on
crop needs, soil properties, slope and length of run, per furrow application
will vary from 8 gallons per minute on the shortest runs up to 15 gallons
per minute on the longest. Number of rows per set is figured accordingly
from the total flow. To meet crop needs and minimize excess deep percolation,
optimum set time planned is 14 hours,

The system begins with a cutthroat-type weir for flow measurement and a
trash cleaning device manufactured locally. Ditch checks are used to direct
flow into either the south or west ditch sections.

The 18" ported ditch is set on a 0,15% grade. The 2" ports, drilled
after the concrete has set, are level along the length of the set. Drop-
close gated are installed between sets with a drop to allow flow below the
ports of nonirrigating sets, Gates are tripped by mechanical time-clocks
on the gate assembly,

To the south, irrigation begins at the bottom set and progresses at the
clocked intervals up the ditch. The gate is rigged with a flow-through by-
pass activated by the float assembly in the ditch for flows in excess of the
design,

This system consists of 800' of ditch to the south and 210' to the west
and incorporated 8 timed gates,

STOP 3:

SEMI-AUTOMATED PORTED CONCRETE DITCH - John Miller

This system irrigates 34 acres cropland. Fifteen acres of this field
was leveled this summer to an irrigation grade of 0.8%.

The design water supply is 1.5 cubic feet per second which will irrigate
170 foot set widths at 10 gallons per minute/per furrow. This is derived
from the SCS computerized IRMA program based on the field variables of soil,
slope, furrow spacing, etc.. The design set time from this program is 17
hours.
