Corn production in
the Upper Platte River Basin is stimulated by world demand through the
econanic market systen. This trend in corn production and harvested
acres of irrigated corn for Colorado and Nebraska reveals that the
continuance of growth would result 'in a doubling of both the irrigated
acres harvested and bushels of corn produced by the year 2000. Of
course, this trend analysis placed no constraints on agricultural growth
due to available water, productive land, or economic climate.

Table 8.--Annual corn production for 1970-1980,
Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming
(million bushels)

Year Colorado Nebraska Wyoming
1970 37.84 360 .38 NA*
1971 38.70 450.50 2.26
1972 42.33 534.04 2.32
1973 48.50 554.60 2.67
1974 52.92 387.60 2.06
1975 51.52 503.20 1.60
1976 64.26 518.50 1.91
1977 80.62 648.45 2.55
1978 80.30 740.15 2.75
1979 96.52 822.25 2.52
1980 89.68 603.50 3.59

* NA - not avail ab 1 e

33
